"Do whatever you need to slow down. It is time to explore what you are carrying within." — Roxana Jones

As winter’s chill lingers and the promise of spring quietly approaches, we enter a sacred window of opportunity—a chance to retreat inwardly, embrace solitude, and nourish our spiritual soil. Just like a gardener who nurtures the soil, incorporates the dead leaves and let’s the soil rest for the growing season, we too can clear out old thoughts, release emotional blockages, and prepare ourselves for the powerful growth that spring will bring.
This is more than just a time to rest; it’s a time to align deeply with your purpose, dreams, and desires. The stillness of winter offers a perfect backdrop for self-discovery, reflection, and spiritual awakening. By the time spring arrives, we will have cultivated our inner garden so that we can manifest the life we deeply desire.
In this blog, we will explore how this hermiting process helps prepare the spiritual soil for your personal transformation. We’ll dive into the power of dreams, the practice of manifestation through Neville Goddard’s teachings, using spiritual tools like tarot, and how creative pursuits can help us connect to our deepest desires. It’s time to get ready to bloom and harness this magical energy.
Personal Story: When the Body Calls for Hermiting
This season, I find myself forced to hermit in a way I hadn’t expected. I’m in my third week of recovering from the flu—nothing serious, but enough to drain my energy and remind me just how important rest truly is. There’s always a fire to put out, always something to do, but if we took the time to listen to our bodies, we’d be better prepared.
I know I wasn’t listening to my body clearly enough, not getting enough rest, and pushing through too many things. And then, it was almost as if my body said, “You know what? It’s time to hermit.” So, I slowed down. I began to write, read new books I’d never heard of, and tried to savor the stillness.
It’s not always easy to shut off the worrier in me—the part that wants to keep things moving. But ultimately, doesn't it all boil down to fear? And fear is not allowed in my hermit time. Fear is meant to be noticed and then stamped out. As I embrace this time, I remind myself of my hermit mantra: “Fear holds no power over me.” I meditate on this each day, allowing myself to experience peace and freedom.
One quote that’s really resonated with me during this period is Paul Williams’ powerful reminder: “If you do not feel free, it is because you have not yet declared your own freedom, you are waiting for it to be given to you. You will wait forever.” This encapsulates the essence of what I am discovering in this hermit time: freedom comes when we choose it.
As I continue through this period of reflection, I also keep reminding myself of my own affirmation: “I am the river of life, all my life passes through me, it is up to me to be a conscious creator of that existence.” (TJJF) This statement helps me realize that the flow of my life is in my hands, and it’s my responsibility to embrace the stillness and growth that come with it.
The Spiritual Side of Hermiting: Getting Ready to Bloom
Hermiting isn’t about hiding from the world; it’s about taking the time to reconnect with the parts of ourselves that often get overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s about looking inward and asking ourselves the important questions: Who am I? What do I truly desire? What beliefs and patterns no longer serve me?
During this time of stillness, we have the opportunity to clear space for new growth. Much like a garden in winter, this is when the soil is rich and ready to receive new seeds. This is when we do the inner work to prepare for what’s to come. As Neville Goddard so eloquently states, “As we lift up our consciousness, our world reshapes itself in harmony with the level to which we have risen.”
It’s through consciousness that our outer world begins to shift. As we engage in this process of self-reflection, we start to make room for the newness that the next season will bring. Hermiting is a sacred time of spiritual recalibration, allowing us to step into our highest potential as we prepare to manifest new possibilities in our lives.
The spiritual soil within us requires nurturing. Just as gardeners amend soil with compost, we must nourish our souls with practices that cleanse and clear away emotional debris—be it past relationships, limiting beliefs, or fear-based thoughts. This deep work ensures that when we plant the seeds of desire, we have fertile ground to nurture them.
This winter is your opportunity to clear the spiritual debris, restore balance, and make room for the seeds of new beginnings that will bloom when spring arrives. Embrace the quiet. Embrace the stillness. It’s here that your soul can breathe and recalibrate for the powerful manifestations to come.
Dreams: Unlocking Hidden Messages and Power
One of the most fascinating aspects of hermiting is the profound impact it has on our dream life. The quieter, more reflective nature of this time allows our subconscious mind to speak more clearly. Our dreams become more vivid, symbolic, and, at times, even prophetic.
If you’ve ever woken up from a dream feeling like it was more than just a random collection of images, you’ve experienced the power of dream guidance. During periods of solitude and stillness, our dreams can become portals to deeper truths about our emotional state, desires, and even the spiritual messages we need to hear.
You may find that your dreams are more intense and easier to remember during this time. If remembering your dreams is a challenge, start by simply writing down anything you can recall upon waking. Even if it’s just a color, a feeling, or an impression, take note of it. Over time, you will begin to recall more details, and your dreams will unfold more clearly. If journaling feels like too much, simply spend a few minutes reflecting on how the dream made you feel. What was the essence of the experience?
For example, if you dream of a river, it might symbolize emotional flow. A mountain could represent the strength and challenges you are overcoming. Dreams are like whispers from the soul, guiding you to where you need to focus your energy.
If you struggle with dream recall, try some simple techniques:
- Before bed, ask yourself to remember your dreams.
- Place a notebook by your bedside, so you can jot down whatever comes to you as soon as you wake up.
- Set an intention for clarity in your dreams, asking for specific guidance in areas of your life.
Your dreams are gateways to understanding, offering clarity, resolution, and direction. Start listening to them, and allow them to help you shape your reality.
Neville Goddard’s Mantras: Speak Your Desire Into Existence
"As we lift up our consciousness, our world reshapes itself in harmony with the level to which we have risen." — Neville Goddard, Let Us Go Into The Silence - The Lectures of Neville Goddard: 300 Lectures
When you retreat into solitude and hermit, it’s an excellent time to work with Neville Goddard’s teachings to shape your reality. Neville believed that the imagination is the key to unlocking your desires, and that we must “live in the end”—that is, feel as though our desires are already fulfilled.
Neville’s teachings are more than just mantras; they are truth statements that activate the power within you. When you declare your desires with confidence and belief, you are stepping into the state of already having them. Here are some of Neville’s most transformative truth statements:
- “I am the one who chooses my destiny.” This statement reinforces the power of your thoughts and decisions. You are in control of the direction your life takes.
- “I am the master of my thoughts, feelings, and actions.” Every thought you entertain has the potential to shape your future.
- “I am living in the end of my desire now.” Imagine what it feels like to have already achieved your goals. Live in that feeling today.
- “My reality is constantly aligning with my highest good.” Trust that the universe is bringing everything you need into alignment with your desires.
Use these affirmations daily, with conviction and belief, and watch as your reality shifts to reflect your inner world. Choose one that you can FEEL!
Spiritual Tools: Tarot, Oracle Cards, and Meditation
While the time of hermiting invites stillness and reflection, it also encourages us to use spiritual tools to enhance our understanding and connection to the universe.
Tarot and Oracle Cards for Guidance:
Tarot and oracle cards are fantastic tools for insight and clarity, especially during times of spiritual reflection. Each card holds a story, a piece of wisdom that can guide you through your current challenges. Try pulling a card every day as a form of guidance. A single card can help you uncover hidden truths and align with the energies you need to focus on. For example, The Hermit card itself is an indicator that you’re exactly where you need to be—reflecting inward and trusting the process.
You can also consider reading our Moon Tarot reading in the club to see how the energies of the lunar cycle affect you, revealing hidden influences that may guide you in your journey.
Meditation: Find What Works for You
Meditation is one of the most powerful ways to tap into your inner wisdom during this time. It helps you silence the distractions of the outside world and tune into your higher self. There is no right or wrong way to meditate—find what works best for you.
Whether it’s through breathing exercises, visualization, or mindfulness, meditation allows you to enter a state of presence and connection with your intuition. Over time, it will help you clarify your desires, receive guidance, and shift your mindset to a more positive, abundant one.
Creativity: The Portal to Play and Intuition
Let’s take a moment to talk about creativity. When we embrace solitude, our creative energies naturally flow. This time of introspection is a perfect opportunity to tap into your creative spirit, whether it’s through painting, drawing, writing, or dancing.
The act of creation not only connects you with your soul, but it also opens you to your intuitive wisdom. It’s about letting go of expectations and simply creating for the sake of creation. It doesn’t matter if it’s a masterpiece or a doodle—it’s about expressing what’s within and allowing your intuition to guide you.
As Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” Creativity isn’t just about making something beautiful—it’s about manifesting your future. Let your creative energy flow, uninhibited, and see where it takes you.
Don’t take it too seriously. Creativity is also about play. Whether it’s doodling in your journal, moving to music, or writing a story, it’s important to engage with your creative side in a way that feels light and fun. Let go of judgment and have fun with it. Trust your intuition—if it tells you to nap, nap. If it says to dance, dance. This is your time to explore and express yourself without restrictions.
Reading: Not Just Spiritual Works, But Fiction Too
Reading is another wonderful way to connect with your inner self during this time. While spiritual books and personal development readings are key, don’t forget the power of fiction. Fiction opens new doors for creativity, allowing us to engage with different worlds, perspectives, and possibilities.
Books like fantasy novels, historical fiction, or even mystery and romance novels can be incredibly nourishing for the soul. Not only do they provide a much-needed escape, but they also stimulate the imagination, giving you the energy and inspiration to create your own dreams and desires. Reading fiction reminds us of the magic that exists in the world and in ourselves.
Take some time to read. This season I am reading a fantasy novel and also Das Energy by Paul Williams. Both are enhancing my soul.
Nurturing Your Spirit: The Power of Connection
While solitude is a key part of this journey, human connection plays an essential role in nourishing the soul. Spending time with loved ones—those who fill you with love, joy, and peace—is important during this period. Whether it’s a pet, family member, or a friend who has supported you through life’s challenges, these relationships are the roots that help you stay grounded.
Your time with loved ones is not just about being together—it’s about sharing the essence of who you are. It’s a reminder that connection, love, and laughter are just as important as the time you spend in solitude. Maybe you are truly blessed and only have to be around those special people. But even if you are surrounded by more toxic energy at work for instance, you can take the time in your week to hermit with those you love. Maybe it’s a Saturday morning working on a puzzle with your best friend. You know what and who you love and adore, life’s too short, spend time doing that with those ;).
